Okmulgee County Humane Society Is Searching for a Second Chance for This Smart, Affectionate Plott Hound Mix
There's a dog over at the Okmulgee County Humane Society right now who will make you laugh, keep you moving, and melt your heart... sometimes all in the same afternoon.
His name is Jake. He's 2.5 years old, weighs 47 pounds, and he's a Plott Hound and Tennessee Treeing Brindle mix.
If you've never seen a brindle Plott Hound up close, picture tiger stripes on a dog. And yes, he's exactly as striking in person as that sounds.
But Jake isn't just a pretty face. What Jake Is Like on a Regular TuesdayJake plays fetch like a pro. He'll go on a hike with you. He loves walks, he loves people, and he bonds fast.
Also? He jumps on the trampoline by himself and runs up and down the slide.
No, that's not a typo. Jake apparently decided the playground equipment was just as much for him as for the kids, and honestly... fair enough.
He's house-trained, crate-trained, food-safe, and already knows sit, down, and wait. He's the kind of dog who keeps you laughing and on your toes in the best way.
Staff at the humane society describe him as affectionate, athletic, curious, dignified, funny, and smart (which is a pretty remarkable combination for any living creature, human or otherwise). Here's the Real Story
Jake was adopted from the Okmulgee County Humane Society about two years ago. Recently, he was returned. His previous family reported occasional, unpredictable conflicts with their Chihuahuas.
It's a hard thing for any family to go through, and it's a hard thing for a dog like Jake to experience, too. But here's what's happened since he came back...
The humane society staff got to work re-evaluating Jake in different environments. And what they've seen has been encouraging.
He's shown no issues with dogs his own size and larger. He's been calm and curious around cats in a controlled setting. He's social, playful, and eager to connect.
Jake does have a high prey drive (he will absolutely chase a squirrel), so a home without small pets is still the recommendation. But this is a dog who was returned for one specific challenge, and he's already showing the world he's more than that one chapter of his story. What Jake Needs
The Okmulgee County Humane Society is looking for the right fit. Not the perfect fit.
Jake would thrive with:
That's it. That's the ask. How to Meet Jake

And even if adopting isn't in the cards for you right now, sharing Jake's story costs nothing and could mean everything. Every share gets him one step closer to his happily-ever-after.
Jake doesn't need perfect. He just needs the right fit.
Maybe that's you. |
