Things to Do in Okmulgee (2026 Local Guide + Weekly Updates) | The Okmulgee Spotlight

Think there's nothing going on around Okmulgee this weekend?

There's actually a lot happening... and some of it won't be around next week.

We've got a closing sale at a beloved local shop (everything must go, for real), a handmade artisan market that runs every Saturday afternoon, a monthly farmers market that kicks off this Sunday, and a dance studio nearby offering three different ways to get moving this month.

From free markets to yoga set to 70s yacht rock... yeah, it's a thing, and it sounds amazing.

Roscoe Is an Okmulgee Puppy on a Mission... Find His Forever Home, and He'll Steal Your Heart

He doubles back on walks... just to check on you.

That's Roscoe. An almost 6-month-old Anatolian Shepherd and Great Pyrenees mix who is basically the definition of loyal.

He's playful. He's sweet. He loves being right there in your world.

And right now, he's at the Okmulgee Humane Society waiting for his forever home.

The good news? He's ready to go. He's already been vetted, vaccinated, and neutered. He's good with kids and other dogs.

And he comes with zero drama and a whole lot of heart.

He's medium-sized with a gorgeous cream and apricot coat, still in his puppy phase (so yes, you'd get to watch him grow), and he has absolutely no special needs. Just needs someone to call home.

If you've been thinking about adopting, or you know someone who's been on the fence... this might be the sign.

Applications and meet and greets are handled right through the Okmulgee Humane Society. Monday through Friday, 10 am to 1 pm, or reach out at hello@okmulgeehumane.org.

"Meet Jake: The Resilient Brindle Boy Fighting for His Second Chance"

There's a dog at the Okmulgee County Humane Society  who jumps on trampolines by himself and runs down the slide at the playground.

His name is Jake, and he is looking for a home.

Jake is a 2.5-year-old brindle Plott Hound mix (think tiger stripes, 47 pounds, and a personality that will make you laugh out loud).

He's house-trained, crate-trained, knows basic commands, plays fetch like a pro, and bonds hard with his people.

He was adopted from the humane society two years ago and recently returned after some conflicts with small dogs in his previous home. But here's the thing... since coming back, staff have seen a different side of Jake.

He's doing great with dogs his own size. He's calm around cats.

He's social, playful, and ready to connect.

He does best in a home without small pets, but he might be exactly what someone in Okmulgee County has been looking for.

If that someone is you, or if you know someone who needs a funny, athletic, affectionate dog with tiger stripes in their life, go read the full story.

Have you met Wally yet?

This Curious Little Guy is House-Trained, Kid-Friendly, and Ready to Fill Your Home With Love

Have you met Wally yet?

He's a young Chihuahua mix over at the Okmulgee Humane Society, and he is... a lot of fun. Curious. Gentle. Funny. Quiet.

Basically everything you'd want in a four-legged roommate.

He's already house-trained (seriously, skip that whole puppy phase), vaccinated, great with kids, and has zero special needs.

He's young, he's healthy, and he's just waiting for someone to give him a chance.

Now, he hasn't been around a ton of other dogs or cats yet, so if you've got a full house of pets, that's worth asking the shelter about. But given how calm and adaptable he is at his age, the team over there is feeling pretty optimistic.

He's small (under 25 lbs), brown and cream, and honestly... he sounds like exactly the kind of dog that sneaks right into your heart before you even realize it's happening.

If you've been thinking about adding a dog to your family, Wally might be your guy.
